“THE KINGS” CAR

April 20th, 2008, Features

Make: Plymouth

Model: NASCAR race car

As we all know, Orange County is home to some pretty amazing automobiles. Every now and then however, something really interesting “pops” up and this car is no exception.

This restored race car is the “kings” ride. Yes, that King; Richard Petty. Restored to its original color and livery, this NASCAR race car was driven to victory at Richmond and Riverside Raceway in 1972. The restoration was completely documented and overseen by Petty Enterprises. The engine is the correct dry sump 426 Hemi. The differential cooler is mounted to the rear floor and helped keep the rear end cool during those long, hot races.

The car was recently acquired by a local Orange County resident.

This car is a terrific piece of racing history and can be seen, along with a host of other great automobiles, at Crevier Classic Car Co. in Costa Mesa Ca.

Give the guys at Crevier Classic Cars a call and make an appointment to view this car; the doors are always open to Orange County car enthusiasts!

Wow, I grew up watching Richard Petty on ABC’s Wide World of Sports race this car! And to think it’s right there at Crevier Classic Cars now blows my mind. When I return from my little trip down to the Caribbean, I have to drop by and drool, I mean check it out. What a trip down memory lane that will be…. Congrats on the snag!

Remember it was the 70’s when this thing was racing, peace, love and the inhaling of the notorious “killer weed” The peace sign thing was Petty’s head rest…………….I wonder where the “bong” pipe was kept :):)

    Dating myself, eh?
