Road Trip across the US part 3
March 26th, 2010, Features
Overcast skies and rain started the day today. I was hoping it would not stay that way for the entire days drive. The further west I went the better the weather got, then blue skies and sunshine until night-fall. It was a bit cold, 43 degees cold…well digger ass cold!
I planned the drive last night. I would take I-40 West to
I turned off I-40 as planed and got on to hwy 70. It was fuel time…the car gets pretty darn good mileage. Steve, I have decided to keep you guessing for another day. J There is something that I have discovered about the South; Southern hospitality does indeed exist.
The drive into
Hwy 70 finally brought me back to I-40 just west of
Getting hungry, I started looking for a restaurant again. I found one called “The South Park Restaurant” …no joke. I was going to take a picture of the place. I actually walked in, took a look at what was being served and left, I was NOT going to eat crappy food again…not today anyhow. Then I saw it…..a sign, in German. A Restaurant at a Swiss winery…could it be…REAL food?? I followed the sign to the Wiederkehr Winery and Restaurant, about 4 miles off I-40 in
The car? It hauls ass when you want or need it to…getting on the freeway is effortless, it pulls like a God damned train!
Steve….I just read that you believe you have broken the code…really? How? Enlighten us please….
Tonight, in the Ozarks, tomorrow…tune in J

Sounds like a long day - but more astonishing pics for sure! Should’ve had you get prices on those concrete trucks - looks like the construction industry is as strong in Tennessee as it is here in CA! Glad to hear the car hauls ass and surprised it’s good on gas - but that’s relative I suppose?! Steve thinks he has the code, but actually he is way off, but I’m sure he’ll chime in shortly….
Looks like your weather should be good for the rest of the trip (unless it takes more than 10 days to get here, in which case, who knows?!) and don’t see any tornadoes as you come through the alley. You have to have some catfish before you leave the Ozarks - but I don’t know that it makes a great breakfast necessarily…
Anxious to hear about tomorrow’s adventures and see more pics - this virtual trip across the US (yours is real, of course) is awesome! Get some sleep and drive safely!

Damn it. I woke this morning, turned on the computer and went straight here to read a great story. It made me cry like a little baby. The photos flooded back the memories of a small child stuffed in the back of an old Chrysler station wagon (with 4 brothers and sisters) driving across the country. My face stuffed against the back windows, gazing at the endless beauty of this Great Country of ours. Missing those golden memories, a much simpler time in life, and the good friends I’ve made along the way….
Thanks K. always need a good cry.

Well, let’s just say I have friends in low places! A combination of what was said and what was not said is how I come to my conclusion.
My official guess is either a Trailblazer SS or a Tahoe. Since Wick has the other GM Luxo Big Boy, I am going to say it is a smaller one. But I am going to lay odds on a SUV. I’m giving 20 to 1 odds….any takers?

The Big Kahuna blows snot bubbles….nice:) Actually I am touched; really. There may be a time that I look back on this as fondly as you have. We (as Americans) don’t see enough of our county….more on that later

any chance you are headed to Punxsutawney Pennsylvania…
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. - Police say they charged a Pennsylvania man with public drunkenness after he was seen trying to resuscitate a long-dead opossum along a highway.
